King George VI School
Earth School
Since 1993, King George VI School has been involved with the SEEDS Canada Foundation in their national environmental program called "Learners in Action".
The program encourages the students to take positive action to enhance the environment and to communicate to others about the environment. The program focuses on environmentally friendly practices and is goal-oriented, positive/rewarding, student-centered and easily integrated into our existing curriculum. Of the 15 000 schools in Canada, over 5000 schools are registered in this worthwhile program. We reached Earth School status on April 24, 1997 by completing more than 1000 environmental action projects. We are the 59th school in Canada, 22nd in Ontario and first in Sarnia/Lambton to reach this goal. Our success is the result of teamwork (staff, students and community) and commitment. The students have developed a respect for our environment and value it. We now think before we pitch and have taken on the 4 R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rethink!
