Your Lambton County Library Card
Your library card allows you to borrow from a collection of 850,000 items - including books, magazines, videos, cassettes, compact discs and audio-visual equipment. Your card can be used in any of our 28 branches and the Bookmobile to borrow material. You must present your library card to check out material.
Anyone living in Ontario - even temporarily - can register for a membership card. You may get a card immediately by bringing in identification that gives your name and current address. If you do not have ID at the time of registration, you may borrow up to two items on a temporary membership. You will receive full membership status when you produce proper ID
Children in Grade 8 or under require the signature of a parent or guardian to get a library card. By signing the card, the parent or guardian takes responsibility for all borrowed materials.
Out of province borrowers may take out an annual membership for a fee of $25.00. Top
Regular Loan Period: Books and audiocassettes may be borrowed for 28 days.
Seven-Day Loan: Magazines, videos and CDs are available for 7 days. The library cannot assume responsibility for damage to audiovisual equipment, which may occur during the use of Library-owned audiovisual materials.
Vacation Loans: Only materials available for regular 28-day loan may be checked out for an 8 week loan period. You are entitled to two, eight week vacation loans per year. Top
Material may be returned to any Lambton County Library branch. Most locations have a materials return chute which is open when the library is closed. Most items may be renewed unless requested by another patron. Materials can be renewed over the phone during regular opening hours. There is generally no limit to the number of books, or CDs a person can borrow at one time. Patrons can borrow a maximum of two video titles, two audio titles and ten magazines per library card. Reference materials may not be circulated, but are available for use within the library. Top
Lambton County Library has a policy of collecting fines for overdue materials to encourage prompt return. Fine revenue is added to the library’s operating budget.
An overdue fine will be charged for every day materials are late. Fines may be paid when the item is returned, or may be accrued on your record for payment later. Fines are based on the type of material borrowed.
All circulating materials (except videos):
10 cents per item per day to a maximum of $3.00
per item.
Videos:
$1.00 per video per day to a maximum of $3.00 per item.
Projectors and screens:
$5.00 per day, no maximum
An invoice or notice charge of $1.00 will be charged for all notices sent out for overdue, lost or damaged materials, etc. Notices are not generated for fines under $5.00. Top
When a borrower has any item overdue for more than six months or over $15 owing in unpaid fines and/or replacement costs, borrowing privileges will be suspended. Users with suspended privileges cannot place holds. Top
An item that is overdue for more than 40 days is considered lost and the replacement charge is automatically added to the borrower’s file. If the item is returned, the replacement cost is canceled and the borrower is charged the maximum fine plus the $1 invoice charge. If the paid-for item is later returned in good condition within one year, a refund may be obtained from our Headquarters. Top
Replacement Charge for Lost Cards
Your library card is valuable - think of it as a credit card. There is a $2 replacement charge for a lost borrower card. Since you are responsible for items borrowed against your card, it is important to let your library know immediately if it is lost or stolen. Top
Holds may be placed in person or over the telephone but remember, you must have a valid library card to place a hold. To pick up a hold, you must have the library card in which the hold was placed. This ensures that no other person may take your hold. Top
