Inkle Band
Wall Hanging Project
As their Guild Millenium Project fifteen members of the Sarnia Handspinners and Spinners Guild wove a large inkle band wallhanging. This 7 ft. wide by 4 ft. long hanging was made with 50 bands woven on inkle looms using wool, linen, and cotton yarns. This picture shows a small section of nine bands. The intricate patterns and rich colours are Latvian designs from village folk costumes. When the inkle bands were completed they were sewn together and mounted on a wooden bar. Our Millenium Wall Hanging is currently on display in Sarnia at the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts.
