Weddings and Ceremonies

Our Lay Chaplains are Wendy Starr and Alan McKeown

As a public service our lay-chaplains are proud to perform:
  • Weddings
  • Child dedications
  • Funerals
  • Memorial services
A reasonable fee is charged. We are especially pleased to offer our services to the unchurched, mixed-faith and same-sex couples. Click www.cuc.ca/ceremonies for more information about Unitarian Lay Chaplains and Ceremonies of Significance.

Weddings

We specialize in performing ceremonies which meet the special needs of the couple. After meeting with the couple, a ceremony is crafted which will be joyful, loving, meaningful and memorable. It may include favourite readings and music or other elements, e.g. a unity candle lighting, flower ceremony, hand-fasting, wine cup ceremony etc.

Special family blessings or family member participation is also encouraged, if desired.

Let us create a unique ceremony for your special day that you will both treasure forever.

Child Dedications

Participants dedicate themselves to the task of raising a child with love and fairness, and to nurturing a sense of responsibility to themselves and to others.

This is a joyful and meaningful ceremony for parents, siblings and other family and friends.

Funerals and Memorial Services

We believe that a funeral or memorial service is an essential step in the grief and healing process for family and friends following the death of a loved one. Our lay-chaplains have been professionally trained to provide alternatives to the “traditional religious service” which celebrate the life of the deceased in a respectful way.

Our lay-chaplains have been trained as “Celebrants” by the University of Oklahoma and offer a “celebration of the life of the deceased”. Eulogies may be delivered by family members or the celebrant.

Our services are especially valuable to those who have no religious affiliation but who recognize the value in a professionally performed service which will offer comfort to family and friends and facilitate the grieving process in a healthy and healing way.

Ceremonies may also include elements which respect the diverse religious beliefs of those attending. Families, for example, often include the Lord's Prayer or Psalm 23.
