ABOUT SODA
|
The Sarnia Organ Donor Awareness Group was founded by
two organ recipients in 1994. SODA is a registered charity whose
work is undertaken by a dedicated group of volunteers. Except for a
small amount of money which goes to the office and administration
expense, all of the money goes to promotional work and support of
individuals within Lambton County. There are no paid employees. We
do no phone or door-to-door solicitation. We are always in need of
volunteers for the office, to sit on the Board of Directors, to
handle speaking engagements, and to help out at special events. |

GOALS AND MISSION
-
To offer support to other organ recipients who may
be experiencing a difficult time (medications, guilt feelings,
etc.).
-
To increase public awareness of the
need for organ donors.
-
To provide support for people on the
waiting list.
-
To develop a list of speakers
available for increasing donation awareness.
-
To offer a forum for discussion of
“what will happen after the recovery period” (i.e., go back to odd
jobs, go to a new job), and other questions that need to be
discussed to help the recipient return to normal life.
-
To raise funds:
- to assist organ recipients, individuals on waiting lists for
transplantation, and their families, with medical and other costs
related to the transplantation operations;
- to assist on-going research into the areas of transplantation.
