Dr. Linda Bowring Scholarship Essay Contest
In the spring of 2003 the Sarnia-Lambton Palliative Care Association was pleased to introduce the Dr. Linda Bowring Scholarship Essay Contest. Students were asked to submit essays drawing from their practical knowledge of palliative care, as well as their own personal experiences. The Scholarship is valued at $500.00 towards a post-secondary education.
Dr. Bowring was instrumental in setting up and dedicating herself to the Palliative Care program in Sarnia-Lambton for over 20 years. Sarnia became a recognized model for Palliative Care in Canada. For her efforts Dr. Bowring was awarded the Dorothy Ley Award in 2001 by the Ontario Palliative Care Association. Dr Bowring, died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on July 5, 2003.
Six entries were received for the 2009 essay contest. All essays submitted were of excellent quality and reflected a deep understanding of palliative care.
The winning essay was submitted by Pam Walker, a graduate of L.C.C.V.I. She plans to continue her studies in the fall at Wilfrid Laurier University in French and Math, with the goal of becoming a teacher.
