Director, Eleanor Vargo, has been involved in music since she began to take piano lessons at 8 years of age. She also sang in her church choir, and played duets with the organist in that choir. She was a regular pianist for the Sunday School, as well as singing in ensembles and choirs all through her school years. During High School years she played the piano in orchestras when school work allowed it.
After training to be a teacher, she was hired by the Windsor Board of Education to teach music in a rotary school system where she was responsible for music from grades 2 through 8.
Following her marriage she moved back to Sarnia  area where she taught in a rural school outside of Sarnia because of the city's policy of not hiring married teachers (Yes, there was a time when that was so!)

She then taught Grade 1 in Point Edward where she lived, and when Sarnia's policy regarding married teachers changed, she moved to Queen Elizabeth School where she taught Grade 2 for 11 years. All through these teaching years she trained choirs and ensembles for the Music Festival and school entertainments, taught classroom music for her co-workers, took organ lessons and was an organist and choir director for several churches around the city. In the 70's she also was an instructor for the Vocal Music Class sponsored by the Ontario Department of Education. For many years she was the organizer, arranger, and a singer in the "Jeanettes", a group of 10 ladies originally in Jeane Houghton's All Girl Choir, who performed countless times in the area. This group was together for over 30 years, and most of the "Jeanettes" are now in the Rainbow Singers.

Following her retirement in 1986, she remained involved in the Lambton County Music Festival as a volunteer, and is currently in charge of obtaining adjudicators for the festival each year. She also does supply work for church organists around the city.

Early in 1993, she was contacted by two members of the organizing committee for the Retired Women Teachers Convention in Sarnia about forming a teachers choir to entertain at that event. She agreed, and rehearsals began. The concert, when it was finally presented in June of that year, was really well received and it was decided to continue as a choir and a name was voted on. The choir name decided upon was "Rainbow Singers". Since there is not very much suitable music arranged for Soprano, Second Soprano, and Alto, which is the choral configuration of the Rainbow Singers, Eleanor does much of the arranging for the songs presented.

Her hobbies, besides music, consist of traveling, mainly cruises which she especially enjoys, needlework, bridge, curling, ballroom dancing, and flower gardening. She has two cats, Silver and T.C. who are great companions for her.

During the school year 1998-99, she hosted a German exchange student. This was an interesting and rewarding experience for both of them and she plans to visit him in Germany next June.
