Sarnia Paramedic Association

February 2000

B-Splints

have arrived....
The two sets of B-Splints have arrived. Any comments or suggestions about having perhaps "Sarnia Paramedic Association" embroidered on the blue bag? The cost would be minimal. If anyone would like to pose for the "official" photograph of the handing over ceremony, please come forward......

Meeting with Lambton CountyAmbulance Co-ordinator

The meeting with Steve Van Valkenburg went well. Tom, Gord, Gary C. and Tim Clark addressed the Health and Senior Services Committee, which includes the Warden of Lambton County. The committee was attentive and had many insightful questions after our presentation. The presentation itself consisted of the format that was discussed at the last meeting of the SPA in December, with some late inclusions that were already submitted to the Land Ambulance Advisory Committee.

The minutes of the meeting will be presented at the meeting listed below for everyone to read.

Health and Senior Services Committee Recommendation

The full report written by Steve Van. is available from either Gord or Tom. Copies will be made, and will be brought to the Feb 24 meeting. If things go as favourably with Lambton County Council as they did with the committee, we may have a County operated service decision soon.

Feb 14th at High Noon @ Sarnia City Hall

A number of events are planned for this month, including a special meeting of the Sarnia City Council and the Lambton Health and Senior Services Committee. The Warden of the County, other committee members, and Steve Van. will be making their presentation to Sarnia City Council.
It would be good if we could all be there as a show of support for the decision that this committee has recommended to Lambton Council.

The City has 40% of the County vote, so the decision of the city will certainly make a difference in the upcoming vote. March 08th is the next meeting of the Lambton County Council. It is possible that the decision could be made on this date.

Nominations for Sarnia Paramedic Association Committee

Tom is now accepting written nominations for positions of:
Chairperson
Vice-Chairperson
Secretary
Treasurer
for the association. Please try to have your nominations in by Feb 24 so that elections can be arranged for March.

The next year is going to be very important for our Association. The decision that Lambton County Council will soon make is only the beginning. Operational issues have not even been discussed yet. Our Association has a commitment from the County to be heard for upcoming
operational issues. Now is not the time to "sit back" and hope that everything just "goes well"!

Come out to the next meeting in February and come prepared to help with your committee which will certainly be involved in the future decisions.

Petition

Wendy and Tony Mallette have copies of the petition that we plan to present to Lambton County Council on March 08/2000.
An armful of signatures from voters may be needed to persuade some of the Lambton councilors. Please attempt to get as many signatures as possible by early March.
