Outings

Bruce Outing

On our current outdoor program brochure there is no mention of our annual outing to the Bruce peninsula, however it will be outlined in our new 2003-04 brochure that will be available before our annual meeting on April 12, 2003. I am giving you some advance notice on our plans for this year's outing planned for May 30 (alternate day), May 31 and June 1.

This year our plan is to co-ordinate our weekend with Parks Canada's "Orchid Festival". Ann and I took in part of the first annual last Spring and it was quite good. It is an early date for us but we will have a chance to see some of the early orchids like the Rams Head, Calypso and Spotted Coralroot. All of their activities centre around the Tobermory area. We still plan to locate around the Lion's Head area familiar to most of us although some may wish to stay in Tobermory or use the campgrounds at Bruce Peninsula National Park. The feature speaker on Saturday night will be Michael Runtz, a biologist who is a superb nature and wildlife photographer. He is also a featured speaker at the Canada Camera College Conference in Ottawa this June. The outing is limited to 16 participants and LWI members will be allowed to register first. After May 27 nonmembers may register if there are vacancies. Registration will be handled by Diane Haselmayer (542-2826) or Janet Bremner (542-2797).

Call early to register and to book your accommodations. Additional information is on the website and there will be some admission and activity fees charged on the weekend.
