Dear Young Naturalists

I hope you enjoyed your morning at the Sugar Bush. That Saturday was the first day that the sap was flowing. Tapping trees and collecting sap can be a lot of work, but Meagan did a great job drilling a hole in the tree. It was a beautiful day to be in the woods.

I think we have some possible chefs in our group. Your flapjack flipping abilities during our flapjack race were very impressive. On the serious side, we discussed the sap cycle in a sugar maple tree and watched a slide show demonstrating the ways sap has been collected and boiled down over the years.

I hope you enjoyed your maple flavoured popcorn. Guessing by how fast it was gobbled up, I'd say yes. I'm glad I made extras

Yours Outdoors,
Kimberly Gledhill
