Solitary Sandpiper (Tringa solitaria) One of the shorebirds, this little wader is a dark brownish-grey above with spotting reminiscent of pearls or droplets of water. It usually forages alone at the edge of shallow freshwater ponds. These birds breed from Alaska to Labrador, utilizing other birds' nests high in coniferous trees. They pass through Lambton during migration in May and June and on their return journey in August and September. The solitary's habit of stretching on landing displays the dark underwings, after which it usually bobs its tail.
