The Big Bluffer
When discovered near Port Franks by Gerry Clements, this particular eastern hognose snake immediately went into its "Look out, I'm dangerous" routine. When threastened, these small one-and-a-half- to three-foot, non- poisonous creatures flatten their necks like a cobra, hiss loudly and strike (with their mouths closed). If this doesn't scare you off, they will roll over on their backs, mouth open, tounge out, and play dead.If righted with a stick they promptly roll over again as if to say "I'm dead, go away!".
