Kids Positive Social Skills and Self-Esteem Building Program

The Learning Disabilities Association of Lambton County through the Kids Positive Program strives to enable children with learning disabilities to reach their full social and emotional potential.

Kids Postive is an after school social skills program for children aged 6 to 9 and 10 to 13. It is a 10 week program that is deisgned to improve their social skills and build self-esteem.

Although designed for children with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD, all children are eligible and can benefit from the Kids Positive Program. Children who take the program can have challenges interacting with their peers and/or problems making or keeping friends.

Each session consists of a structured lesson plan on the specific social skill lesson for that week. Sessions include role-playing scenarios utilizing both children and puppets, some story telling, some movie watching and lots of positive reinforcement. Part of the positive reinforcement is our B.E.S.T. bucks program, where the children are rewarded B.E.S.T. bucks for their behaviour.

An example of some of the topics that could be covered are:
Accepting Consequences, Problem Solving, Avoiding Trouble, Conversation Skills, Feelings, Following Instructions, Teasing/Bullying, Building Self Esteem, Body Language, Dealing with Anger, Friendship, Ignoring Distractions, Sportsmanship, Using Self Control, Relaxation

The last session always ends in a celebration, where the students have a chance to spend thier hard earned B.E.S.T. bucks.

NOTE: Programs are based on the specific needs of the children attending the class. Please indicate to the instructor if you would like to have your child learn about specific social skills.

Sessions are offered one evening a week during the school year, with a one week summer camp in July.

Please register quickly to secure a spot. The class size is limited to 10.
