JUMP Math Program. JUMP stands for Junior Undiscovered Math Prodigies. This new program is based on the book “The Myth of Ability” by Canadian author and mathematician John Mighton. Program to begin Tuesday, October 19, 2004 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Program is for students in Grades 3 up. Program will run from October 2004 to May 2005. For 30 sessions (October-May the cost is $150 if parent volunteers in program and $250 if parent does not volunteer). Monthly post-dated cheques accepted.
The JUMP program works with a teaching method based on the simple but
revolutionary contention that every child can master math. The reason
so many children fail at math is because somewhere in the chain of learning
they haven’t understood a step. The program will begin with teaching
math operations such as adding and subtracting fractions and gradually
introduce the concepts behind the operations, using word problems, games
and puzzles.
