IODE

The mission of IODE, a Canadian women's charitable organization, is to improve the quality of life for children, youth and those in need, through educational, social service and citizenship programs.

IODE

  • A National/Canadian organization, IODE was founded in 1900
  • IODE meets the challenges and changing needs of society
  • Membership is open to Canadian women and offers a sense of purpose, community involvement, personal growth, fellowship and fun
  • IODE members make a difference through educational, social service and citizenship programs.

Education

  • Significant contributions made through scholarships, bursaries, grants, awards and prizes given at all levels
  • Rewarding outstanding achievement
  • encouraging those with special needs
  • "adopting" classes/schools in the distant north
  • aiding local schools

Services

  Providing more than $1,000,000 annually for -

  • Clothing, footwear, bedding and food to those in need
  • equipment and supplies to institutions, hospitals and crisis centres
  • Christmas TOYS FOR THE NORTH (since 1967)
  • support to northern nursing stations
  • IODE sponsored camper cabin
    -Children's Cancer Camp Funs (new project 1997)

Citizenship

  • over 500,000 volunteer hours annually, serving the needs of the community
  • welcoming new Canadians at citizenship courts
  • awarding outstanding police officers, fire fighters and citizens for valued service to their communities
  • promoting environmental, safety and substance abuse prevention programs
  • assisting students attending "Forum for Young Canadians" and "Encounters with Canada"

IODE also is:

  • funds "CONCERN FOR CHILDREN" projects in genetic medicine
  • sponsors the Canadian Directory of genetic support groups
  • supports genetic clinics
  • awards genetic fellowships
  • funded the Provincial IODE Genetic Resource Centre at the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario, London
