Sarnia Catholic Cursillo

Cursillo, in Spanish, refers to a short course in Christianity. Beginning on a Thursday evening and ending on the Sunday evening, those in attendance listen to talks given by both lay persons and priests from within the community, who provide spiritual direction at this event. These dialogues concern the integral place that Christianity occupies in our daily lives, and most importantly, the positive effect that one can make in the lives of those around them. The team of individuals organizing this gathering, and providing the discussions, spend many weeks preparing for this weekend.

Everyone faces the strains of living in a modern world; the onslaught to Christian standards, which impact our families and our communities. The weekend deals with living life within God's grace, and the ways that we are strengthened and guided by God. After each talk, the gathering divides into smaller groups to further explore the main point addressed by the given talk. This atmosphere models the early Christian community providing a warm environment in which to participate. All meals are prepared by dedicated volunteers, and there are frequent breaks to provide the opportunity for quiet reflection, relaxation, socializing, and walking outside.

Please note that Cursillo does not replace any part of the Church. It is not a separate or special section. It does not propose any new type of spirituality. However, Cursillo is a method through which to develop one's spirituality. The Christ-like behaviour of a few good individuals is contagious, spreading Christ's values to family, school, work, and so on. This is what Cursillo is intended to promote.

Cursillo is an encounter with Christ.

The Cursillos yearly weekends are held in the Parish Hall of St. Joseph's, Corunna.
