On the Ranges with Ron Martin

What's Doing

There have been lots of activities and special events this summer. And, our fall and winter schedules are shaping up and getting full. We have a couple of new events to tell you about.

The Cowboy Shoot on Saturday, September 8th was another success story, thanks to the ongoing hard work of Ken Fowler and his helpers. We had 16 participants and tons of fun. Cowboys came in from Chatham, Petrolia and Sarnia, and they all said they had a great day. The spectators had every bit as much fun cheering them on.

Once again, the annual Pig Roast was another success. Jim Hall kept the pig company over night and put it on in the wee hours to roast to perfection. We fed about 145 people and still have some meat left to serve later at our upcoming work day. We had shooting demos in the afternoon. Wayne Giberson showed what IPSIC is all about and Ken Fowler did a demo of Cowboy action shooting. Most everyone went out to the ranges to watch and learn. Great day, good weather.

That van body you see beside the field is for storing clays in. Beats sore backs from carrying them from the clubhouse.

Chuck Dekeyser is looking to get the PPC started. He’s out there on Tuesday nights practising up and waiting for someone to challenge him. Call him at 337-8854 if you want to know about Police Pistol Combat style shooting.

Brad Armstrong wants some competition at shooting bowling pins on Wednesday nights. I know we have some good pin shooters out on Sundays, so call Brad 862-1499 and give him a hard time.

The damage to the steel targets is really disappointing. This damage needs to stop. If you see anyone using centrefire rifle loads, tell the shooter to stop. These targets are designed for leadcast handgun bullets or .22 cal. only. If this damage continues, we won’t have these types of reactive targets to shoot at all.

Congratulations to our bullseye shooters. With very tiny margins (1659 to 1655 in May), they’ve kept pace with the friendly competition from the Watford club who are sending out their best shooters. So come out and help us keep them in line. Or just come out and shoot. We like the company.

We meet Monday and Thursday night at the indoor range on Mitton St. between 6:30 & 9:30 p.m. Usually there is quite a good turn out, sometimes 12 - 15 shooters. A lot of shooters are working shift, so not always the same people are shooting. We really would like some more members to come out and shoot with us

Mark your calendar for Saturday, October 20th , 1:30 p.m. at the club, when there will be an Action Shoot familiarization and checkout with basic instruction in action shooting. Bring your semi-auto or revolver, any holsters and or speed loaders you may have for an afternoon of fun and familiarization. Call Wayne Giberson 542-4014 or Mark Harrison 862-5140 for more info.

The Hunters’ Sighting-In Days – September 22 &23- was another new venture for us. We had18 people come out to sight in their guns for the hunting season. Two of them joined the clubwhen they saw our facilities! Thanks to the helpers who were on hand to welcome our visitors.

Call these leaders for more information on the sport of your choice.
