President’s Report
with Jim McMurrayWe hope everyone is having a great summer even though record temperatures have kept a lot of us inside. All shooting disciplines have been going strong and we’re having a lot of fun. But, we need strong support on our boat cruise. If we had even 40% of our membership and their guests buy a ticket, the boat cruise would be sold out. We need your help with this fundraiser to keep our membership costs down. This function raises more money for our club than all other combined fundraising events. See you there on Thursday, August 22nd.
Range Report
with Ron MartinOur 2nd Annual Gym-Kana was won by the Pep Boys -.Dave Powers, Paul Vail and Bruce Ross, a guest from the Watford Club. This year we had eleven 3-person teams. It was a really hot day. We’ve had good turnouts for the Cowboy shoots. Ed Brimstone won the 1st shoot and our own Ken Fowler won the 2nd shoot. Jake Moser took first prize both times in the junior division and Carolyn McMurray took first prize in the women’s division. They are both eager for some competition, so get out there and give them some flak. Trap is doing well with our new trap machine. Sporting clays is still very active. We need leaders for pin shooting and rifle. Call Ron Martin at 336-9977 to get involved.
Coming Events
Thursday, August 22nd Annual Boat Cruise on the Macassa Bay 7-10 p.m.
This is our next big fund-raiser but we haven’t seen much interest from our members yet. In past years, this has been a lot of fun, with beautiful sunsets and fine weather. We are pleased again to have musician Craig Nienhuis to entertain us with his blend of country, folk and soft guitar and melodic singing voice.
So, get a group of your friends together, and come out for this enjoyable evening. What a shame if we couldn’t pay for the cruise by selling tickets to our own members and their friends! Call Ed Allin (542-6519), Jim McMurray (332-5555), Ken Ball (862-1228), or Larry O’Neil (336-0846) for tickets. They’ll deliver them right away.
Sunday, September 8th Our 5th Annual Pig Roast and Family Fun Shoot
noon - 4 p.m. shooting; 4:30 to 6 p.m. Dinner
We’ve made a change in the Pig Roast this year. We all get a kick out of bringing our own special salads and desserts. So, we’re doing this again at the Pig Roast. The club provides the succulent roast pork right from the spit, potatoes baked in foil, rolls, condiments, coffee and pop. We’ll set up again in the clubhouse (Did you notice our real cutlery?) and eat outdoors at our newly-made picnic tables and under the tent. Call any board member for tickets. They’re $10 for adults and $6.00 for kids 12 and under. Come out and shoot first.
Sunday, September 15th Sighting-In Day Noon until 4 p.m
We’re offering this day for hunters to sight in their shotguns and rifles. Although members can do this at any time, this is a day when the public is welcome to come out and do the same. We hope to interest new members to join when they see all that the club now has to offer. So bring your hunting friends with you. They can sight in their firearms for a nominal fee of $10 for each firearm..
Saturday, September 14th Ducks Unlimited’s Greenwing Day 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The youth group from Ducks Unlimited is using Clay Creek Farms for a day of fun outdoor activities. This will interest your children and grandchildren from 5 years to 17 years old. They’ll learn a lot about nature, pond conservation, outdoor skills and building wood duck boxes and bat boxes. What a great way to get kids enthused about something useful! Hot dogs and burgers at noon. Free draws and prizes. Kids can register that morning and become members of Ducks Unlimited Greenwing Club for the registration fee of $10 per kid. For more info, call Wayne Giberson at 542-4014 or Dwayne Inkpen at 541-1268.
Sunday, October 20th Clean Up Day 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. lunch served
(new date)
It’s that time again. We alternate Saturdays and Sundays for our cleanup days so that people working shifts can do their share of the helping. We have lots still to do and need all the helping hands, with tools if you’re handy. After this date, the water will be turned off for the winter months.
